eviQ and eviQ education opportunities to improve cancer outcomes for LGBTIQ+ communities (#251)

Introduction

eviQ1 and eviQ Education2 are flagship programs of the Cancer Institute NSW (CINSW) that provide free online evidence-based information to guide and support the delivery of evidence-based, best practice cancer treatment and care nationally and internationally. eviQ provides consensus driven cancer treatment protocols and information for use at the point of care and eviQ Education provides cancer health professional education. Contributing to the NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy 2022-20273 and the CINSW partnership with ACON4, opportunities for eviQ and eviQ Education to improve cancer outcomes for sexuality and gender diverse communities were explored.

Methods

The eviQ and eviQ Education teams consulted with internal and external stakeholders involved in delivering the CINSW ACON partnership4 to identify opportunities aligned with the NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy 2022-20273 to contribute to improving cancer outcomes for LGBTIQ+ communities.

Results

The following initial opportunities were agreed and work commenced:

  1. eviQ collaboration with ACON to review existing eviQ patient information. Initial work completed includes publication of:
  1. eviQ Cancer Genetics:
  1. eviQ Education in collaboration with ACON to progress education modules to equip cancer services staff to provide best practice care to sexuality and gender diverse patients and their families.

Conclusions

There are significant ongoing opportunities for eviQ and eviQ Education to work in partnership to deliver improved cancer outcomes for LGBTIQ+ communities.
