Growing evidence supporting efficacy of patient reported outcomes (PROs) use in clinical cancer practice, has led to its increasing adoption into clinical care. But to date, PROs uptake tends to apply predominantly to patients who are English speaking, access digital technology and those with fewer symptoms. To ensure equity in access and uptake of PROs into clinical care, one needs to consider individual patient needs and barriers to use of PROs as well as the capabilities of the health systems that deliver them.
This presentation will consider PROs implementation from the “groundshot” perspective that aims to ensure minimum access to all before innovation to few. Using case examples, this presentation will review principles of implementation of PROs in the context of resource limited settings and propose strategies to facilitate initial uptake and long term sustainability.
